persimmons make good bread

so i dont think i even knew what a persimmon was before coming to japan, let alone ever having tried one. but they are a wonderful fruit ... think of the texture of peaches, in the shape of a tomato and slightly red orange. they r really good. well i bought some and let them go a litte too ripe and instead of throwing them out, i decided to make bread and surprisingly turned out really good. a little mushy on the inside because i didnt leave it in long enough, so now it kind of tastes like pumpkin pie but in bread form. really good with cream cheese!

as i sat in the office today i watched it snow all day! it was the wet kind of snow mixed in with hail and sleet and all that so it didnt stick, but, it did snow. everyone was all worried because they havent changed their tires yet, but luckily im good in that department. i think im finally starting to realize that ill actually be living in a place with extreme weather! went to the store and invested in an electric blanket, well 2 actually, one for my bed and one for the couch. the heater is ok i guess, but on days like today where its really cold (and they say this is nothing!) i can see how the heater wont be enough. also bought slippers and they are great for the freezing kitchen floor! got get ready to live in my little igloo here!

haha ... u can so tell im from california because californians talk about the weather a lot, well whenever there is weather. when it rains in california, it's all over the news! everyone in college just laughed because california was reporting news that was pretty darn obvious. and now here i am telling u all about how its cold and starting to snow and yet people here are like, yeah? your point?

oh yeah, i wanted to share some of what my students wrote. they had to write whether wearing helmuts while riding their bikes to school is a good or bad thing and here's what they had to say (no motifications):
-those against wearing helmuts ~
"We can safety precaution"
"Helmut is disagreeable because very strange"
"If we will be an accident, "die when die""
"Helmut is in troubl in resting place"
"first, wet in a helmut when it rained"
-those for wearing helmuts ~
"helmut is very cool" --> enough said!
ah my kids are great ... i know i made probably the same mistakes when i started learning japanese, shoot, i probably still do!! but at least u get what they are trying to say!
